Welcome Message

Welcome to the Wanderers Squash Club. The Wanderers Squash Club is an active squash club for members and non-members. During the year the Wanderers Squash Club offers a number of tournaments, socials and leagues for its members to participate in. The Wanderers Squash Club also has Social Sundays from 4pm where members can pop down to the squash club and play against other players. Non-members are welcome to participate in the Social Sundays for a small guest fee of R50. When league comes to an end the Wanderers Squash Club has Social Squash on a Tuesday.

The year starts off at the Wanderers Squash Club with Tuesday Training in January. Blitz league then takes over and players are placed into groups of 6 players. Matches are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The first tournament of the year is the Wanderers Pre-Season Open Tournament. Members and non-members are encouraged to enter. In 2020 the tournament ran over 1 day and Bruce Young won the event beating Phil Louw in the final.

Towards the end of March Joburg League and Masters League starts up and the Wanderers Squash Club usually enters 6 teams into both the Joburg Squash and Masters League. Members should contact the league reps in January if they wish to play in either of the leagues. Players are put into teams according to their strength and the Joburg Squash League (Tuesday or Wednesday) is played on a home and away basis while the Masters League (Thursday) is for Members over the age of 35 and is played at a central venue throughout the year. The league runs for approximately 6 months and ends in September.

The Chamber Challenge takes place in October on World Squash Day and is a friendly battle on the squash court between Chamber Exiles and the Wanderers Squash Club. Each club takes turns in hosting the Chamber Challenge and in 2019 Chamber Exiles will be hosting the event. The event is open to all members and players are paired up against players of their standard.

The Century Doubles (100+) Tournament is a concept that started in the USA and has now continued at the Wanderers Squash Club. Teams must have a total age of 100 years or more to compete. The tournament runs over 2 days and it is quite a social event. Unfortunately, our youngest member is still looking for an 85 year old partner. The tournament takes place towards the end of October.

The next tournament of the year is the Wanderers Squash Club Championships. The Club Championships takes place over three weeks. Bruce Young won the Club Champs in 2019 and will be looking to defend his title in 2020. Information regarding the Club Champs will be sent out in October.

The final event of the year at the Wanderers Squash Club is the Movember Squash Tournament. Players are placed into teams and they then battle it out against each other on the squash court. Money raised from the tournament goes towards the Movember Foundation and Thusong Squash.
